What is the better location for Portraiture - Outdoor or Studio?

Many customers love having their portrait taken in an outdoor setting. Sometimes the setting is a beautiful backdrop or has some special meaning such as a favourite part of the garden.

In these cases, we prefer to visit the location in advance to work out the best time of day to photograph in that location. Alternatively, photo sessions can be taken in a park setting where the best time of day and an exact location is already known by the photographer.

Studio Portraits create a different style of portrait. They are a fun and relaxing way to have beautiful portraits taken. As the studio is fully air conditioned, your portraits can be created when it is raining or very hot and humid. Another advantage of studio photography is that we use a special background technology that provides the choice of a vast variety of different effects and looks in your portrait.

Natural compositions can be achieved by creating a high key (light clothing and light background) look which is very popular for creating a casual and fun look.

Alternatively, for a strong dramatic look, a low key (dark background and dark clothing look) can create stunning and sensitive style portraits.

Another option for creating beautiful portraits is to use window lighting in your own home to create to a very special portrait that can hold meaning for some families.

What happens after the photo session?

After the photo session is completed, all the photographs are reviewed and sorted in preparation for the viewing.

During this process, the best photographs are selected and reserved for viewing in the Studio showroom where your order is decided.

How are the photographs viewed during the ordering session?

The advent of digital technology means that we no longer have to produce lots of small proofs.

Photography by Julie uses the very latest technology to make the ordering session a fun and truly memorable occasion.

All photographs are displayed in a dedicated viewing room using a large cinema projection screen. They can be viewed in colour as well as black and white. Many combinations of sizes, cropping options and framing styles are demonstrated in their actual finished size. They can then be compared against different sizes to arrive at the very best way for you to enjoy your portraits.
